Steve Tinghitella, longtime LM editor

MASSAPEQUA, NY—Logistics Management regrets to report that longtime editor/publisher Steve Tinghitella has passed away. He was 90.
Tinghitella joined Traffic Management, the original title of Logistics Management, in 1962 and served as editor/publisher until his semi-retirement in 1981. He served as editor emeritus until 1987.
Steve was well known in the traffic and logistics industries throughout a career that spanned five decades. He received numerous awards and accolades for his leadership, and passion for the industry, including the Transportation Man of the Year Award in 1964 from the Delta Nu Alpha transportation fraternity and the President's Award for Training of the Handicapped in 1968.
Tinghitella began his career in 1940 as Assistant Traffic Manager at John Sexton Food Services in New York City. After serving in the Army Aircorps during World War II, he returned to Sexton and became a licensed ICC practitioner in 1948. Tinghitella moved to Rupp Trucking as Vice President, Traffic in 1954. In 1958 he was appointed Director of Traffic for the Commerce and Industry Association of New York.
Tinghitella is survived by Inez, his wife of 60 years, daughter Vilma, sons Stephen and John, 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
