CMA-CGM has launched a weekly container service from the West Coast of South America, Central America, and Mexico to Southern California. The new service will make direct calls at ports in Chile, Peru, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, and California. The company will also begin operation of a weekly service in cooperation with China Shipping from the U.S. East Coast to North Europe. A fleet of four vessels will connect with feeders serving the Baltic States, Russia, Poland, and Scandinavia. (www.cma-cgm.com)
DHL has launched its MidDay Express Service, offering deliveries by noon on the second day for non-dutiable shipments from North America to major business centers in 10 Asia-Pacific countries. The service also is available from Asia-Pacific to Europe. (www.dhl.com)
Anchorage, Alaska-based Carlile Transportation Systems Inc., a full-service trucking company, has opened a multimodal terminal at the Port of Tacoma. The 80-door facility features 50,000 square feet of cross-dock space. Thirty-two miles of Ethernet and fiber-optic cable enable wireless networking of handheld computers and printers within the terminal complex. (www.carlile.biz)
EGL Eagle Global Logistics has opened an aerospace and defense supply chain management center at the AllianceTexas multimodal hub to handle shipments for Lockheed Martin's Fort Worth production facility.
