Hoemann set to step down as FMCSA deputy administrator

Staff -- Logistics Management, 4/10/2006

WASHINGTON—Warren E. Hoemann, deputy administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), announced his resignation today, effective May 13.

In his resignation letter to Department of Transportation (DOT) secretary Norman Mineta, Hoemann cited many accomplishments that the FMCSA achieved during his three-year tenure. Chief among these were: reducing regulatory backlog by 68 percent, the FMCSA achieving its highest level of safety, and acting as a modal leader in helping the DOT reach the coveted Green status in several President’s Management Agenda (PMA) initiatives.

Hoemann added in the letter that his personal highlights at DOT were reaching interagency agreement regarding intermodal chassis maintenance and guiding the FMSCA headquarters during Hurricane Katrina.

John Hill, FMSCA assistant administrator and chief safety office will serve as acting deputy administrator until a permanent replacement is named, according to a statement issued by the DOT today.

Hoemann’s future plans were unknown at press time.
