New Services

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 7/1/2006

Gebrüder Weiss, the Austria-based international logistics company, is increasing its presence in North America. Last month it launched its own weekly ocean-freight consolidation service from Europe to the United States and Canada. The service offers faster transit times, regular departures, and door-to-door logistics control, according to Route Manager— North America Wolfgang Graf.

Crowley Maritime Corporation
has added 457 new 40-foot, high-cube refrigerated containers and 380 power packs (gensets) to its fleet. The equipment is being deployed in the company's Latin America, Caribbean, and Puerto Rico services.

DHL has moved to a new and larger facility at Incheon International Logistics Center in Seoul, South Korea. The 2,209-square-meter facility will handle air import and export services, customs clearance, bonded warehousing, consolidation, and distribution. Shipment turnaround time will be one-half day shorter.

Weber Distribution, a provider of warehousing and logistics services, has acquired TaB Warehouse & Distribution Company, a specialist in food distribution. The acquisition adds nearly 1 million square feet of warehousing space to Weber's distribution network and expands its pool distribution capabilities on the West Coast.

Carrier Corp. has purchased Sensitech Inc., a global provider of cold-chain visibility solutions. Sensitech will function as a wholly owned subsidiary of Carrier. Sensitech's proprietary technology enables customers in the food and pharmaceutical industries to track and monitor assets across the supply chain, protecting the integrity of their temperature-sensitive products. Its product portfolio includes comprehensive analytic services, validated enterprise-software systems, and data-acquisition devices.
