Trucking
-- Logistics Management, 2/1/2001
Thanks to fuel surcharges, rising labor costs, and a strong economy that saw too many shippers chasing too few trucks, shippers that move products over the highway met more challenges in 2000 than at any other time in the past five years. By the time 2000 was over, average prices for trucking and courier services (excluding air couriers) had jumped 4.0%. That was up from a 2.8% trucking inflation rate in 1999. Intercity less-than-truckload shipping took the prize: Average prices ended up rising 9.5% in December 2000 over December 1999 levels.
