Air carriers are doing their best to pass along at least some of their fuel cost increases. In December 2000, average prices for scheduled flights that move cargo fell 0.3%, only slightly offsetting November's 8.1% price hike. A comparison of December 2000 and December 1999 prices shows that shippers had to absorb a 9.1% hike for flying property and a 1.4% increase for flying private mail. Air-courier services, meanwhile, tallied up a 10.3% hike for delivering domestic mail and packages and a 4.7% gain for international delivery. By contrast, the price for flying yourself rose 22.6% in a coach seat and 15.8% in first class.
