Cardinal Logistics sells van division to Swift

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 2/1/2001

Completing its transformation from an irregular-route motor carrier to a provider of logistics and supply-chain services, Cardinal Logistics Management Inc. of Concord, N.C., has sold its van division, Cardinal Freight Carriers Inc., to truckload carrier Swift Transportation Co. of Phoenix, Ariz. Cardinal sold its flatbed division in a similar move last July.

Proceeds from the sale will be used for the continued growth of Cardinal's dedicated delivery business. Cardinal Logistics Management offers dedicated contract carriage, delivery services, and non-asset-based logistics management focusing on demand-chain optimization and operations.

Details of the transaction were not disclosed. Continued employment was offered to Cardinal's 350 van drivers and 200 independent contractors, according to Swift Transportation's Bill Riley.
