New Services

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 10/1/2006

A. Duie Pyle will expand its truckload (TL) shipping operation in response to growing customer demand for TL services. The West Chester, Pa.-based carrier has invested in 50 new over-the-road (OTR) 2007 Freightliner Columbia tractors with sleepers and plans to hire a corresponding number of full-time OTR drivers by the end of the year. The growth plan supplements A. Duie Pyle's dedicated pool of more than 150 owner/operator TL drivers.

4 Way Logistics has launched Online LTL Marketplace, a new Internet-based service that allows customers to quickly find an LTL solution. Using the service, customers can compare rates and transit times, get quotes simultaneously from different LTL carriers, book shipments, and maintain an online address book of shippers and consignees to help streamline future orders. Shippers can also add users, store freight quotes for future reference, and access the technology 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Netherlands-based express delivery company TNT Express and GeoPost, the holding company for the parcel and express subsidiaries of France's postal service, Groupe La Poste, have signed a five-year cooperation agreement. Under the agreement, TNT Express will pick up and deliver international express parcels on behalf of GeoPost throughout its global network. Service under the contract will begin in late January 2007.

APL Logistics and Con-way Freight have launched Ocean Guaranteed, a new service providing secure, rapid delivery of less-than-containerload (LCL) shipments from China to the United States. The program will provide “port-to-door” guaranteed service from Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Shenzen to all continental U.S. destinations served by Con-way Freight. Los Angeles will be the U.S. port-of-call for customs clearance and deconsolidating shipments.
