FedEx acquires UK-based ANC Holdings Limited

Jeff Berman, Senior Editor -- Logistics Management, 12/18/2006

LONDON—FedEx Corporation announced earlier this week that it has acquired United Kingdom-based domestic express services provider ANC Holdings Limited for more than $233 million ($120 million British Pounds).

A FedEx spokesperson told Logistics Management that today’s announcement will help support the company’s business growth objectives for the UK.

“This [transaction] allows FedEx Express, which is our largest operating group, to directly serve the dynamic UK domestic market, which gives our customers a broader range of shipping options and enhanced services,” said the spokesperson.

And as the UK market continues to evolve and expand, FedEx’ customers are increasingly seeking a single provider of services for both domestic and international shipping, according to the spokesperson.

“The addition of ANC will provide a seamless customer experience for FedEx,” added the spokesperson.

ANC was founded in 1981 and has an established pick-up and delivery network throughout the UK. The company’s annual revenues total approximately $281 million ($145 million British Pounds), and it has 4,500 employees, a 2,200-vehicle fleet in 80 locations.

The spokesperson said that for the time being ANC operations will remain “business as usual” and the company’s management team will report directly to Robert W. Elliott, FedEx Express president for Europe, Middle East, Africa and India subcontinent. The companies will continue to function as separate business units and day-to—day operations will remain unchanged for the foreseeable future, added the spokesperson.

She added that over time ANC will be integrated into the FedEx family following a company review. More information will be made available about that in the future.
