Ficker to step down as President of the National Industrial Transportation League
Staff -- Logistics Management, 11/19/2007
WASHINGTON—In a letter to members of the National Industrial Transportation League (NITL), Chairman Curt Warfel said that NITL President John Ficker has tendered his resignation as president of the League, one of the nation’s oldest and largest national associations that represents shippers and carriers involved in transporting domestic and international freight, as well as smaller companies engaged in the shipment and receipt of goods.
Warfel’s letter stated that Ficker tendered his resignation on Wednesday, November 14, and he has accepted a position with an industrial real estate firm in the Chicago area.
Ficker joined the League as president in 2003. Prior to that, he was involved in transportation and logistics operations at Tacoma-based Weyerhaeuser in several capacities, including logistics development manager, domestic transportation for Pulp, Paper and Packaging. He also was responsible for domestic transportation management activities related to carrier selection, shipment preparation and load dispatch, freight bill payment, and claims handling.
“Since becoming League president in 2003, John has done a wonderful job of increasing the League’s membership and improving our balance sheet,” said Warfel. “At the same time he has maintained the League’s reputation of being the finest transportation association in North America.”
Warfel added that an executive search team comprised of the League’s executive committee, former League chairman Tom Pellington and League counsel Nick DiMichael will immediately begin the search for its new president.
