DHL announces 2008 rate increases

Staff -- Logistics Management, 11/27/2007

PLANTATION, Fla.—Express delivery and logistics services provider DHL said today it will increase the net average shipping rate for DHL Domestic Air Express and International Express by an average of 4.9 percent.

DHL also said there will be an average increase of 4.9 percent for DHL Ground shipments and for DHL@Home as well. The rate hike, according to the company, includes a 6.9 percent average increase in its base rates, which is off-set by a 2.0 percent reduction in its air fuel surcharge index.

These rates will officially take effect on January 6, 2008.

DHL’s planned rate increase of 4.9 percent matches those of UPS—for its UPS Ground and UPS Standard to Canada services, as well as its Air and International express services—and FedEx—for its FedEx Express unit—which announced their 2008 rate hikes earlier this month.
