Transportation and logistics executives on the move

WALTHAM, Mass—The past few weeks have seen some notable personnel announcements from various transportation and logistics services providers. For more information, see below.
- YRC Worldwide subsidiary YRC North American Transportation said that Phil Gaines was recently named president of Yellow Transportation and Ken Bowman was named senior vice president of finance. Prior to his new role, Gaines served as senior vice president and chief financial officer for YRC North American Transportation. He has been with the company since 1989. As president of Yellow Transportation, he will over the company’s national, regional, and international services, focusing on moving industrial, commercial, and retail goods. Bowman joined YRC in 2002, and in his most recent position he served as vice president of finance for Roadway.
- Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) said that Dr. Thomas Held has resigned from the position of group president and chief executive officer. Held has been replaced by Ronald Widdows, whom has served as CEO of NOL’s container shipping unit, APL, since 2003. Widdows has been with APL for 28 years and has more than 37 years of industry experience, holding positions—with an operations focus—in Asia, the United States, and Canada. NOL Chairman Cheng Wai Keung said in a statement that the company’s board of directors felt this is the “right time for a change in the stewardship of the NOL Group, as it positions to grow in container shipping amidst the changes of a cyclical industry sector, a slowing world economy and a tougher costs environment.”
- Global Insight, a provider of economic and financial information and data, said that Paul Bingham, Principal, has been promoted from principal to managing director of the firm’s World Trade and Transportation Markets for the Trade and Transportation Group. He will oversee international products and consulting capabilities. In his new role Bingham will leverage his more than 25 years of experience in managing and performing freight transportation and international trade analyses to help Global Insight customers solve transportation-related business problems.
- Timothy Campbell has joined HighJump Software as CEO. He joins the company from Symyxs Technologies, where he served as president. “Tim brings a wealth of experience in software business management and executive leadership to HighJump,” said Dave Tabors, general partner, Battery Ventures, in a statement. "HighJump has grown to have a significant market presence in the supply chain software industry. Under Tim’s leadership, the company is poised for the next phase of its growth, and is in an excellent position to aggressively expand its product portfolio and worldwide business both organically and through acquisition.”
