Transportation and logistics executives on the move

WALTHAM, Mass.—The past few weeks have seen some notable personnel announcements from various transportation and logistics services providers. For more information, see below.

  • Con-way anounced yesterday that Kevin C. Schick has changed positions from senior vice president and chief financial officer to vice president, operational accounting. The company said that Schick will oversee directing corporate financial reporting, business accointing, and regulatory financial compliance activities. Stephen L. Bruffett will replace Schick as senior vice president and chief financial officer. Bruffett was periously chief financial officer at YRC Worldwide and has 16 years of freight transportation industry experience, beginning his career in the field at director of finance for American Freightways in 1992 prior to joining YRC Worldwide six years later. Prior to being named chief financial officer at YRCW in late 2007, Bruffett also served as director of financial planning and analysis for YRCW’s Yellow Freight unit, among other positions.

  • YRC Worldwide said that Paul L. Liljegren will replace Bruffett at interim chief financial officer, effective immediately.  Liljegren is YRCW’s vice president, corporate controller, and chief accounting officer. The company said he will continue in those roles while also serving as interim CFO. He joined YRCW in 2004 as vice president, risk and assurance, and was named vice president, corporate controller, and chief accounting officer in 2005.

  • Earlier this month, DHL reported that Hans Hickler was named chief executive officer for its Global Customer Solutions (GCS) organization, which is responsible fore the customer management of the company’s largest global customers. In his new role, Hickler will “play a key role in continuing to maximize customer relationship management on a global scale in line with the Group’s vision to becoming customers’ First Choice,” according to a company statement. Prior to being named to his new poisition, Hickler was CEO of DHL Express in the United States. Hickler joined DHL in 2004 as director of strategy and business implementation. Prior to joining DHL, he held various positions for 20 years at the NOL Group and its APL and APL Logistics subsidiaries.

  • The Warehouse Education and Research Council (WERC) announced that Robert L. Shaunnessey will retire from his positions as executive director, effective August 31. He has been in his position with the association since November 2003. Michael J. Mikitka, CMP, CAE, who has been with WERC for eight years, has been named interim executive director. Shaunnessey said he will be doing some consultant work on a less-than-full-time basis, helping others in the logistics world. He will also stay active within WERC, which he was a member of before becoming executive director. During Shaunnessey’s tenure, he oversaw the launch of WERC online and the co-development of the first Greening the Supply Chain Conference.

  • Penske Logistics said that Ivanyra Correia was named chief financial officer for Penske Logistics South America. In her new role, Correia will oversee the company’s accounting, administration, payroll, risk management, legal pricing, reporting, and procurement areas. She joins Penske from the Amanco Group, where she was Latin American Finance Superintendent.

  • Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) has appointed Eng Aik Meng as president of its APL container shipping unit. He will re-join the company from IMC Corp., a Singapore-based diversified shipping and industrial supply chain company, where he currently serves as deputy CEO and managing director of its Aurora Tankers Business. From 1993-June 2007, Eng was employed by NOL in various positions, including senior vice president of APL’s Intra-Asia business from 2002-2007. He also held roles in NOL’s strategic planning group and held corporate finance positions as well. Eng will replace Ron Widdows, whom was named NOL Group president and CEO in July.
