Global logistics: FedEx Express sets up shop in Mexico

MEMPHIS—In an effort to expand its international service and product portfolio, FedEx Corp.’s FedEx Express unit said this week it is officially rolling out a domestic service in Mexico.

Dubbed FedEx Nacional, the company said that the domestic next-business-day service will provide shippers with “highly reliable, convenient and quality express shipping solutions across Mexico,” akin to FedEx’ domestic service launches in China, India and the United Kingdom.

In an interview with LM, Michael L. Ducker, president International, FedEx Express, said that this initiative is consistent with FexEx’ strategy in recent years to grow its international service to ensure it is providing and outstanding service to its importing and exporting customers.

“Customers in Mexico are asking FedEx to enter the domestic market and we are strongly positioned to do so with a highly reliable suite of services,” said Ducker.

FedEx officials said the company will offer a suite of products and services in Mexico—effective October 6—that leverages the company’s 35 years of express transportation expertise to become a leading player in this market. The initial domestic portfolio includes: 

-delivery to any address in Mexico, online tracking and tracing, and is backed by the FedEx money-back guarantee

-FedEx Express Nacional 10:30 AM (FedEx Priority Overnight® ): Next-business-day delivery in Mexico for documents and parcels weighing up to 68 kg, by 10:30 a.m. 

-FedEx Express Nacional DíaSiguiente (FedEx Standard Overnight® ): Next-business-day delivery by the end of the business day. Also for packages weighing up to 68 kg.

Ducker said that the increased competition in domestic transportation and the FedEx focus on convenience, reliability and what he described as superior customer experience will result in greater focus on service and more choices for shippers. Other benefits he cited included: providing customers with a full suite of express products for their international and domestic transportation needs; the convenience of using one service provider for their domestic or international needs; door-to-door, full-service, information-intensive, time-definite solutions; and strong end-to-end customer experience, from pickup to delivery, track and trace/shipment visibility, billing, and first-call resolution and complaint management.
