FedEx Express boosts Europe to US delivery service

Staff -- Logistics Management, 9/2/2008

BRUSSELS, Belgium—FedEx Express, a unit of FedEx, said earlier today it has improved its next business-day-delivery service FedEx International Priority from Europe to major U.S. East Coast cities.

With these new improvements, FedEx said that customers who had two-business-day service can now deliver shipments to more than 3,500 US East Coast zip codes overnight. And it also noted that customers that already have next-business-day delivery service to the East Coast will be able to take advantage of later pick-up times of up to six hours.

According to a FedEx statement, the new service is comprised of delivery to East Coast cities by 3 p.m. ET, including Washington, D.C., New York, Newark, Philadelphia, Boston, and Baltimore for no additional charge, becoming a standard part of FedEx International Priority service. These improvements, said FedEx, will also be available for heavyweight or bulky shipments from European Gateway cities through the FedEx International Priority Service, with FedEx being the only carrier to provide standard next-business-day heavyweight freight service to the US East Coast.

FedEx added it will roll out a new westbound trans-Atlantic flight and fly a wide-body MD-11 freighter daily, Tuesday through Friday, between Paris, Charles de Gaulle Airport and Newark, N.J to support these new changes in service. FedEx said that the Europe-to-U.S. flight segment “comprises part of the FedEx westbound around-the-world flight, which enables FedEx to provide customers with access to key markets around the world with highly competitive transit times.”

FedEx said it will also introduce two new Airbus A310 flights, including flights originating from Barcelona and Budapest-Vienna, to offer customers in these areas later pick-up times for enhanced next-business-day service to the U.S.
