Rubber-Tired Crane Aids in Container Handling
Belotti Handling S.p.A. has worked with Pininfarina Design and the University of Robotics in Genoa to create the new Reach Stacker rubber-tired crane. The machine has an on-board mounted modem/GSM system for remote assistance in real time wherever the machine is working.
The unit uses digital cameras and optical sensors to show when the spreader comes within 1.5 meters of the container. When that distance is reached, the automatic approach is activated until the spreader is locked in the twist lock holes. The automated feature allows the operation to be performed without the operator's physically seeing it.

Conveyors Offer Safe, Non-Contact Load Accumulation
TKF Inc.'s new zoned accumulation conveyors are designed for the controlled, non-contact accumulation of loads. The conveyors are available with both medium-duty (1.9-inch diameter) rollers and heavy-duty (2.5-inch diameter) rollers in widths of up to 60 inches depending on load and roller size.
Suitable for several different uses, the conveyors come in capacities ranging from 20 pounds to a maximum of 5,000 pounds. A single assembly consists of a roll-to-roll chain-driven live roller (CDLR) conveyor divided into individually powered zones of a pre-set length. A single power unit drives the entire conveyor length, and each zone is driven by an air-controlled clutch, controlled by a pneumatic sensor roller at the end of each zone.
When a load enters, it is driven to the farthest unoccupied zone. The load presses the sensor roller at the end of that zone, disengaging the zone's clutch and readying the succeeding zone. When a load is removed from the conveyor's exit end, its sensor roller is released, signaling the accumulated loads to move up and fill the next vacated zone.
Available options include standard channel side frames, reversing operation, online workstations, special widths, special zone or section lengths, electric zone sensors instead of pneumatic zone brakes, and "batch release" controls.

Easy-Access Buttons Make Pallet Truck Operator-Friendly
Multiton MIC Corp. has announced the release of the Type EJE 60 Electric Walkie Pallet Truck. The heavy-duty unit has an electromagnetic disc brake system that acts directly on the motor shaft to provide automatic roll-back protection and speed control even when descending a ramp. A crawl speed may also be selected if the operator needs to maneuver in confined spaces with the handle in the upright position.
The EJE 60, which has a capacity of up to 6,000 pounds, has a 1.5 kW motor with high overload capacity. The truck was designed with accessible safety and emergency push buttons and multifunction control buttons located on both sides of the handle. It also has a "deadman" braking system that stops the truck immediately if the handle is released. The pallet truck, whose chassis is made of 0.31-inch thick steel, is 69.3 inches long and 27.2 inches wide. Maximum travel speed is 3.7 mph with or without a load.
Other features include tandem polyurethane load wheels, a mechanical adjustable brake controlled from the handle, and accessible electrical and hydraulic system components.
