EasyCoders Permit Web-Based Printing From any Location
The EasyCoder bar-code printers from Intermec Technologies Corp. allow the user to create Web-based forms that are accessible by standard Web browser from anywhere in the world because they are hosted on the printers themselves. The printers are programmed using Fingerprint, an Intermec BASIC language.
Fingerprint eliminates the need for middleware and other intermediary hardware devices such as a PC. Using Fingerprint, a printer can control an entire labeling system, receiving and sending signals to virtually any device, including scales, scanners, mechanical arms, electronic eyes, conveyor belts, and even other printers. Printers also can be programmed to provide sound prompts for different activities or to automate tasks to aid people with disabilities.
The user creates "Web forms" that can be set up to mirror any bar-code label requirements using a standard HTML editor and then stores them in the printer's memory. An end user who knows the printer's URL, in turn, can gain access to these forms via a Web browser.

Zebra Offers Electrostatic Dissipating Labels
Zebra Technologies Corp. has introduced Electrostatic Dissipating (ESD) labels, which are designed to reduce the risk of static-related damage to sensitive electronic components during manufacturing, assembly, and packaging. The ESD labels are designed to work with Zebra's 600dpi 96Xilll printer. Zebra says its new labels have completed ESD Association testing to ensure that they effectively dissipate static without damaging the boards they identify. For more information, visit www.zebra.com.
Sato Serves Up a New Print Engine
Sato America has introduced a new print engine—M-8460Se—for use in its bar-code printers. The unit has a modular interface system, which means a high-speed bi-directional interface card can be easily installed in the printer.
Users now can either change their interface in the field or have their choice factory-installed. There are five different interfaces to choose from: RS-232, Parallel, Universal Serial Bus (USB), Ethernet, and Twinax/Coax.
