Companies recently honored for operational excellence:

Staff -- Logistics Management, 5/1/2001

  • TheMemphis Business Journal has named AIMS Logistics, a freight audit, payment, and information services company, Small Business of the Year in the 75-350 employees category.
  • ShipLogix, an Internet-based multimodal transportation management system company, has received a TechKnow AwardfromInside Business magazine. The award recognizes Northeast Ohio companies and organizations that have used information technology to create economic and social benefits for their companies, customers, employees, and communities.
  • Averitt Express, a freight transportation and logistics provider, was presented with the 2000 Quality Carrier Award from Jostens Inc., a manufacturer of school yearbooks. This is the fourth consecutive year that Averitt has won the award, which is given annually to the company's most outstanding carriers.
  • American Freightways Corp. has been named one of America's most admired companies byFortune Magazine. The less-than-truckload carrier earned the number-three spot among the 10 most admired trucking companies nationally.
  • The Outstanding Railroad Performance Award for 2000 from UPS Autogistics, a unit of UPS Logistics Group, was given to Canadian National based on its on-time performance, service design, equipment, communications, and overall value. CN took top honors among Class 1 North American railroads.
  • Ashland Distribution Co. and Ashland Specialty Chemical Co. have awarded a Carrier Excellence Award for the year 2000 to A. Duie Pyle. The LTL carrier exceeded the Ashland target in six different performance measurement areas: error-free shipments, refusal rate, safety performance, claims performance, freight bill rating accuracy, and an overall evaluation of the carriers by Ashland's shipping facilities.
  • The logistics department of Hoffman Enclosures has selected two carriers, USF Holland and USF Reddaway, to receive Carrier Achievement Awards for the year 2000. Both carriers achieved perfect Hoffman Carrier Evaluation scores by meeting 100 percent of the company's carrier evaluation criteria for the entire year. Carriers are measured on the following five performance areas: delivery schedule adherence, shipment performance, billing accuracy, carrier relationship/services, and claims.
  • The American Association of Port Authorities(AAPA) has named Sen. John Breaux(D-La.) Port Person of the Year. The award is presented annually to an individual who has made significant contributions to the port industry. Sen. Breaux has been involved in maritime issues since he was elected to Congress in 1972.
  • ABF Freight System Inc. has been named E-comm Innovator of the Year byNetwork World magazine. The award is bestowed on a company that approaches business-to-business e-commerce with a well-thought-out business plan, intimate knowledge of its customers, and strong technology underpinnings.
