Collapsible bulk boxes make many return trips
Buckhorn, a returnable plastic packaging solutions company, has released a line of Collapsible Bulk Boxes. The boxes, which come in various colors, are available in a variety of sizes: 48 by 45 inches, 48 by 40 inches, and 32 by 30 inches. They fit any capacity requirement: general purpose (up to 800 pounds), industry standard (up to 1,800 pounds), and heavy duty (up to 2,500 pounds). Extended height, extended length, and gravity flow containers are available for special applications.
Standard features on most bulk boxes include hinged side gates for product access—one, two, and no-gate options—and four-way fork entry for trailer loading and unloading. Custom dunnage design is also available for the polyethylene boxes. Made of high-density polyethylene, the boxes are designed to make hundreds of round trips, according to the manufacturer.

Drexel narrow-aisle truck designed for comfort
Drexel Industries LLC has unveiled the DXR-35 narrow-aisle reach truck. The DXR line includes models with 3,500-, 4,500-, and 5,500-pound capacities and provides lift heights to 29 feet and a 48-volt DC power system.
The truck's operator compartment is designed with a sit-down, side-seated driver position with an adjustable, ergonomic seat and smooth hydraulic controls for "finger-tip" steering.
The DXR will handle palletized products in aisles as narrow as 94 inches, functioning as a reach truck in a narrow-aisle environment and as a counterbalanced utility vehicle for general plant activities. The truck also has rack-to-truck load-handling capabilities.
The DXR trucks are available in four chassis configurations to meet various customer requirements for load capacity and lift height, storage rack design, and pallet size.

Thermal printer engineered for speed
Datamax Corp. has introduced the new DMX-I-4208 thermal printer as part of the 2001 Class product line. The unit prints at 8 ips, a 33-percent increase in speed over its parent printer.
Available in direct thermal and thermal transfer configurations, the printer can produce a 203-dpi, four-inch wide image at 8 inches per second and supports all popular linear and two-dimensional bar-code symbologies.
The system features a 32-bit Motorola Coldfire processor and revamped firmware, eight MB of addressable RAM, and an IEEE 1284-compliant parallel interface that supports both bi-directional parallel and Ethernet connections.
The unit is constructed of die-cast aluminum and has a front-panel multi-language LCD.

Dual-belt conveyor accommodates gaps
The Gapper is a new dual belt conveyor from Hytrol Conveyor Co. Inc. It is designed for metering cartons into merges, combiners, sorters, or other equipment where gaps must be pulled between cartons. The discharge belt runs at a higher speed than the infeed belt in order to pull a gap between the cartons as they pass over the conveyor. The resulting gap is a function of the speed ratio between belts and the carton length.
The Gapper is available in six speed gap ratios and features high-friction longitudinally grooved belts, heavy-duty shafts and pulleys, and quick-change pulleys for high-speed operation.

Power unit eliminates hand strapping of pallets
The Powered Probe Strapper from Vestil Manufacturing Co. will eliminate the process of hand-strapping pallets. The semiautomatic unit will feed the desired strap through pallet tensions and seal the strap around the pallet. The Powered Probe Strapper runs off a 110V, 1-phase power supply and gives 175 pounds of tension.
Standard features of the unit, which uses 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch strapping, include a 40-inch foldable arm, 3-inch rubber casters, and a push handle for easy maneuvering.
To operate the unit, workers unfold the chute and push it into the pallet. They then feed the strap while inserting the tip of the strap into the strapway. Once the strapping is tensioned, the unit will automatically pull the strap into a heat-seal. The strap is then cut off to feed the strap out to allow the operator to go on to the next pallet. The operator can choose the strapping tension for the package with a turn of a tension knob.
