The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported this week that both carload and intermodal volumes saw gains for the week ending July 19.
Carload volumes were up 7.6 percent at 299,256, topping the week ending January 12 at 290,607 and the week ending July 5 at 270,731.
Weekly intermodal volume was up 5.6 percent at 267,675 containers and trailers, which outpaced the week ending July 12 at 256,256, and the week ending July 5 at 227,097.
Of the ten carload commodities tracked by the AAR, nine were up annually for the week ending July 19. Motor vehicles and parts were up 46 percent, and grain was up 27.4 percent.
For the first 29 weeks of 2014, carloads are up 3.6 percent annually at 8,308,888 and intermodal is up 6 percent at 7,393,468 trailers and containers.
