AAR reports carload and intermodal gains for week ending July 26

Carload volumes were up 4.3 percent at 306,988, and intermodal volume for the week ending July 26 was up 3.3 percent at 264,809

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported this week that both carload and intermodal volumes saw gains for the week ending July 26.

Carload volumes were up 4.3 percent at 306,988, which outpaced the week ending July 19 at 299,256, the week ending July 12 at 290,607 and the week ending July 5 at 270,731.

Intermodal volume for the week ending July 26 was up 3.3 percent at 264,809 containers and trailers, which was behind the week ending July 19 at 267,675 and ahead of the weeks ending July 12 and July 5, which came in at 256,256 and 227,097, respectively.

Of the ten carload commodities tracked by the AAR, nine were up annually for the week ending July 26. Motor vehicles and parts were up 20.3 percent, and petroleum and petroleum products were up 19.2 percent.

For the first 30 weeks of 2014, carloads are up 3.6 percent annually at 8,615,876 and intermodal is up 5.9 percent at 7,658,277 trailers and containers.
