AAR reports carload and intermodal gains for week ending November 8

Rail carload and intermodal volumes were up again for the week ending November 8, according to data issued by the Association of American Railroads (AAR).

Carloads were up 0.2 percent at 297,694, which was below the week ending November 1 at 305,389 and the week ending October 25 at 307,348.

Intermodal units, at 271,113 containers and trailers were up 2.2 percent annually and below the weeks ending November 1 and October 25, which came in at 279,819 and 278,767, respectively.

Five of the ten carload commodities tracked by the AAR were up annually for the week ending November 8. Petroleum and petroleum products were up 12.4 percent, and nonmetallic minerals were up 13 percent.

For the first 45 weeks of 2014, carloads are up 3.5 percent annually at 13,128,434 and intermodal is up 5.4 percent at 11,730,192 trailers and containers.
