Rail carload and intermodal carloads were again up for the week ending October 11, according to data issued by the Association of American Railroads (AAR).
Carload volume headed up 4.3 percent to 298,376, down from 299,674 from the week of October 4 and 301,862 recorded the week of September 27
Intermodal units, at 273,376 containers and trailers were up 4.8 percent annually, and below the 276,682 recorded the week of October 4 and the 275,071 recorded the week of September 27.
Eight of the ten carload commodities tracked by the AAR were up annually for the week ending October 11. Petroleum and petroleum products were up 19.5 percent.
For the first 41 weeks of 2014, carloads are up 3.6 percent annually at 11,920,873 and intermodal is up 5.5 percent at 10,627,448 trailers and containers.
