The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported that rail carload and intermodal volumes for the week ending January 10 both saw annual gains.
U.S. Carloads were up 7.5 percent at 276,573, which topped the week ending January 3 at 260,526 and the week ending December 27 at 252,100.
Intermodal at 240,947 containers and trailers was up 2.1 percent annually, which was ahead of the weeks ending January 3 and December 27 at 186,675 and 181,238, respectively.
Eight of the ten carload commodities tracked by the AAR were up annually for the week ending January 10, with coal up 4.2 percent or 108,449 carloads and nonmetallic minerals up 22 percent or 30,742 carloads.
