Gains for carload and intermodal volumes remain intact, according to according to data from the Association of American Railroads (AAR).
Carloads for the week ending June 7 were up 5.3 percent at 292,924 and were ahead of the week ending May 31 at 289,633 and below the week ending May 24 at 300,936.
Intermodal trailers and containers were up 6.8 percent at 269,823 and was ahead of the week ending May 31 at 242,092 and the week ending May 24 at 267,283.
Of the 10 carload commodities tracked by the AAR, nine were up for the week ending May 24. Grain was up 15.5 percent, and nonmetallic minerals and products were up 12.2 percent.
For the first 23 weeks of 2014, carloads are up 3.2 percent annually at 6,563,563, and intermodal is up 5.8 percent at 5,834,878 trailers and containers.
