U.S. Carloads were down 2.1 percent annually at 268,620, which was ahead of the weeks ending February 28 and February 21 at 267,060 and 259,544, respectively.
Three of the ten carload commodities tracked by the AAR were up annually for the week ending March 7. Grain was up 11.5 percent to 20,840 carloads, and farm products were up 10.1 percent to 17,496 carloads.
Intermodal volume was up 4 percent at 253,762 containers and trailers, which was ahead of the weeks ending February 28 and February 21 at 241,958 and 213,617, respectively.
On a year-to-date basis, carloads are up 1.8 percent at 2,518,,673 and intermodal is down 2.1 percent at 2,188,224 intermodal units.
