The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported that rail carload and intermodal volumes for the week ending December 6 were each up annually.
Carloads were up 11.7 percent compared to the same timeframe a year ago at 311,955, which topped the week ending November 29 at 271,659. And intermodal at 268,153 container and trailers was up 2.1 percent, which outpaced the week ending November 29 at 220,873.
Eight ten carload commodities tracked by the AAR were up annually for the week ending December 6, with grain up 25,819 carloads or 25.5 percent and farm products, excluding grain and food, down, 0.2 percent or 17,539 carloads.
For the first 49 weeks of 2014, carloads are up 3.6 percent annually at 14,304,515 and intermodal is up 5.2 percent at 12,762,286 trailers and containers.
