Global third-party logistics (3PL) services provider CEVA Logistics recently announced it opened up its fourth facility in Chicago, which is located in close proximity to O’Hare International Airport.
CEVA’s four Chicago area-based facilities comprise more than 650,000 total square-feet and 115 dock doors. It also has two campus-style facilities based in Elk Grove along with one in Wood Dale and one in Des Plaines.
The company provided various services for shippers out of Chicago, including: include air and ground freight forwarding and consolidation, global ocean FCL and LCL, customs brokerage, warehousing, distribution and point of sale projects, residential/home delivery, domestic air freight and expedited services, U.S. domestic distribution and temperature-controlled transport and warehousing for perishables and pharma.
“We are excited about the opportunity to expand our operations in the dynamic Chicago market,” said Bill Stortenbecker, Managing Director of CEVA’s Chicago operations, in a statement. “This new facility enables us to drive growth in our services across the board – our Hub ground network, domestic network, import and export gateway operations, export dock and logistics operations. We have been experiencing significant space constraints in Chicago; with this expansion, we are well-positioned to enhance both our international and domestic business.”
The new facility near O’Hare International Airport is a multi-use logistics facility that includes state-of-the-art security, gate and access control, and 24x7 security on duty, 30 dock doors, and two van ramp doors. And CEVA said it is directly adjacent to an existing company location, which the company said creates a “campus-type” environment along with opportunities to expand current services in the Chicago market and to also improve traffic flows and out of the area.
“CEVA has a long track record of success in the Chicago market,” a company spokesperson told LM. “The decision to expand was primarily driven by the need for additional space across-the-board, in both our international and domestic business.”
The spokesperson added that the expansion has increased CEVA’s capabilities with new multi-user, flexible warehousing and distribution services.
“Existing customers can take advantage of opportunities to expand their footprint with CEVA in Chicago, for which there is significant demand, and new customers can leverage the cost and efficiency benefits of this multi-user facility,” she said. “The expansion also considerably improved the transportation efficiencies of the campus, with increased trailer parking and 30 additional dock doors utilized by our logistics operations.”
CEVA has more than 250 employees in Chicago, but the company does not break out this number by specific locations. The company serves hundreds of shippers out of the Chicago market, according to the spokesperson.
