DHL opens up new facility in Houston

Express delivery and global logistics services provider DHL said this week it has opened up a new Houston, Texas-based service facility.

DHL invested $2.5 million into the facility, due in large part to heavy demand and international shipment growth from the region’s booming oil and gas sector, according to company officials.

The company added that this new 28,000 square-foot facility can process more than 2,500 shipments per hour and is in a prime location, due west of the central Houston business district, which serves Houston and surrounding areas for pick-up, delivery and sorting operations for international shipments.

And this facility is expected to nearly double local capacity for DHL Express Houston operations, which will subsequently provide international importers and exporters with earlier delivery times and later drop cut-off times.

As oil and gas-related activity continues to increase, DHL said it has seen a pick up in emergency shipping of machinery parts and replacement tools.

While this new facility will serve oil and gas shippers to a large degree, a company spokesman said that it will also serve shippers in other sectors in the Houston area, including small businesses, technology companies, manufacturers, among others that leverage DHL’s international expertise and global network.

The new facility will handle a variety of shipments, according to DHL, including international small parcels and palletized and container freight. And it also will have on-site fueling for more than 20 pick-up and delivery vehicles powered by propane autogas.
