After a ten-week run of increases, the national average price per gallon of diesel fell again this week for the second straight week, according to data issued by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
With a 1.9-cent decline, the average is now at $3.266 per gallon. Last week, the national diesel average dipped 0.3 cents for its first decline in the previous 11 weeks.
During the ten-week stretch of diesel increases prior to last week, the average topped the $3 per gallon mark each week, as well as this week and last week. And during that span of increases the average rose a cumulative 27.8 cents.
Compared to the same week a year ago, the diesel average is up 74.2 cents, which is up from last week’s annual spread of 72.4 cents.
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil is currently trading at $66.10 on the New York Mercantile Exchange, which is up over last week’s average of $64.80.
