Data released this week by the United States Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA) pointed to the average price per gallon of diesel gasoline heading up for the ninth consecutive week.
Rising 3.8 cents, the average price per gallon now stands at $3.277, topping last week’s $3.239 average as the highest weekly average since the week of December 29, 2014, when the weekly average came in at $3.213.
During this nine-week stretch of gains, the average has topped the $3 per gallon mark each week. And during that span the average has risen a cumulative 26.7 cents.
Compared to the same week a year ago, the diesel average is up 73.8 cents.
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil is currently trading at $72.17 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, up $1.19 over last week. When WTI crude checked in at $70 per barrel two weeks ago, it marked the first time WTI crude had eclipsed the $70 per barrel mark going back to November 2014.
