The Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported this week that the average price per gallon for diesel gasoline fell for the 11th consecutive week.
At an average of $2.617 per gallon, the price was down 5.1 cents compared to last week, with prices dropping a cumulative 29.7 cents going back to the week of May 25, when the average price was at $2.914 per gallon.
This week’s average price represents its lowest level since October 12, 2009, when it was at $2.60 per gallon.
Compared to the same week a year ago, the average price per gallon is down $1.226.
While diesel prices continue to retreat, oil prices are seeing gains off of recent lows, rising $1.09 to $44.96 on the New York Mercantile Exchange. A New York Times report noted that oil prices are down nearly 60 percent annually.
