Diesel prices decline 1.7 cents, reports EIA


After heading up for the first time in 14 weeks last week, the average price per gallon for diesel gasoline went back to its more familiar pattern of declines, falling 1.7 cents to $2.517 per gallon, according to the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Last week marked the first time the national weekly average price is up for the first time since it increased from $2.904 the week of May 18 to $2.914 the week of May 25.

And during the 14-week stretch of declines from May 25 to August 31, the cumulative price of diesel dropped 40 cents, with the $2.514 average recorded the week of August 31 standing as the lowest weekly price since July 27, 2009, when it was at $2.542.

Compared to the same week a year ago, the current diesel average price is down $1.284.

The average price per barrel of West Texas Intermediate Crude oil is currently at $46.44 on the New York Mercantile Exchange, which is within range of a six-year low noted a Reuters report.
