For the first time in seven weeks, the average price per gallon of diesel gasoline dropped, according to data issued by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
At $2.909 per gallon, the average price for this week was down half a cent, following a cumulative 16-cent gain over the previous six weeks. Even with the slight decline, this week marks the third time the average weekly price has topped $2.90 per gallon since hitting $2.917 per gallon the week of March 16.
On an annual basis, the average price per gallon is down $1.01 compared to the same period a year ago.
The average price of a barrel of oil on the New York Mercantile Exchange was trading at $60.20 at press time.
