Diesel prices fall for ninth straight week

Diesel gasoline’s average price per gallon dropped for the ninth week in a row, according to data issued by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA) this week.

With a 5.9 cent decline, the average price per gallon now stands at $2.723 per gallon, marking the lowest weekly average price per gallon going back to the week of October 19, 2009, when it stood at $2.705 per gallon.

Compared to the same week a year ago, the average price per gallon is down $1.135.

Since the nine-week run of diesel declines began the week of June 1, when it dropped to $2.909 per gallon, the cumulative decline since then stands at 18.6 cents.

The nine-week decline in prices is the longest in all of 2015 and also the second longest since the week of November 10, 2014-February 2, 2015, a 12-week period that saw prices decline a cumulative decline of 79.2 cents.
