Further, faster, YRC Freight cuts shipping times

YRC Freight, the nation’s third-largest LTL carrier with over $3 billion in revenue, is upping the ante in the time-definite market.

With the introduction of its “Accelerated” shipping option, YRC says it is cutting transit times by up to one or two days from its standard service.

YRC Freight says it is able to do this through its dual speed network at the Overland Park, Kan.-based company. The idea came out of shipper meetings and “rounds out what already is one of the most comprehensive and diverse service offerings” in the $34 billion LTL sector.

“It is important that our customers always know we have the technology, the services and the people to fulfill their needs,” YRC Freight President Darren Hawkins said in a statement.

The idea, Hawkins explained, is to get shippers to utilize YRC “in every aspect of their supply chain” rather than just long-haul LTL freight.

In the past two decades, shippers have gravitated to more time-definite services because of demands on their Just-in-Time inventory needs and the move toward more regional distribution. As regional has evolved, more shippers are moving to one- and two-day delivery windows.

YRC Freight’s new Accelerated service fits between its “standard” and “time critical” premium service. YRC Freight says it is a “smart option” for shippers wanting non-guaranteed shipments to get to destinations faster.
