Houston in the limelight

Houston, Texas – the fourth-largest city in the United States and home to a port which ranks first in the United States in international commerce – plays host to the 106th annual meeting of The National Industrial Transportation League (NITL) this week.

The event comes on the heels of a visit by Vice President Joe Biden, who came to the Port of Houston to champion the Obama administration efforts to improve seaport facilities in anticipation of Panama Canal expansion.

Houston is the tenth-largest port in the world by volume, and is playing an increasingly important role in America’s rebirth as a producer of energy-related exports.

This thriving ocean cargo gateway also accounts for more than one million jobs in Texas – an estimated $179 billion in economic activity and $4.5 billion in tax revenue for state and local authorities.

The NITL Conference and TransComp Exhibition is the nation’s leading multi-modal freight transportation event combining timely and comprehensive educational sessions and must attend networking opportunities with innovative and cutting edge exhibits all designed to meet the needs of today’s freight transportation professional.

Houston, is appears, is the perfect venue for this year’s show.
