When a company makes an acquisition for the first time in its 85-year history, it must really like the company it acquired.
That is the case for Kane is Able Inc., a Scranton, Pennsylvania-based 3PL focused serving primarily consumer goods manufacturers and their retail partners, with this week’s acquisition of the Southeast and Northeast regional hubs of Bloomington, Illinois-based 3PL Nexus Distribution Corporation.
The Nexus regional hubs are in Atlanta, Georgia and Allentown, Pennsylvania. Kane is Able officials said that the addition of these distribution campuses highlights the company’s strategic focus on bringing integrated logistics services to new markets, with its customers benefitting from expanded distribution coverage and increased capabilities.
These new locations increase Kane’s managed square footage by more than 10 percent to 7.5 million square feet of space. The company has similar locations in different regions throughout the U.S.
“We are extremely excited about this acquisition,” said Pete Westermann, Kane is Able Inc. President and CEO said in a statement. “In Nexus Distribution, we found an organization with a culture very similar to our own. Their dedication to teamwork, technology, and customer-centric focus is a perfect complement to our existing national network. Our cultural alignment will ensure a smooth transition for both our customers and our associates. This acquisition is consistent with our mission to be a premier provider of performance based, supply chain solutions coast to coast.”
Alex Stark, director of marketing at Kane is Able, told LM that the timing of this deal worked for both organizations.
“We’re thrilled with the acquisition of the [Nexus] southeast and northeast hubs,” he said. “There is a strong cultural fit between both organizations. That is important to us. Plus, it will make for a smooth transition. This move further strengthens our presence in both markets. We are an 85-year old, family owned 3PL with headquarters in the northeast. This expansion is tied directly to our strategy of coast-to-coast locations, exceptional logistics performed by our dependable people.”
Kane already had a presence in both the southeast and northeast markets, and these acquisitions were made to grow them as they are excellent logistics locations, according to Stark.
As a 3PL specializing in multifaceted solutions for its customers, Stark said that Kane is Able believes that the integration of services from shared distribution, retail consolidation, cross-docking, people logistics, transportation, to fulfillment is a solid platform to address the challenges its customer’ face, given the speed of logistics and consumer demand in today’s marketplace.”
