LTL news: ODFL opens up new service center in Madison, Wisconsin
September 14, 2011
Less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation services provider Old Dominion Freight Line (ODFL) said this week it has opened a new service center in Madison, Wisconsin.
Company officials said this move was driven by increased growth in this area, adding that ODFL will hire 12 new employees to work out of this facility. ODFL now has four Wisconsin-based service centers and 214 throughout the United States.
They also said that this expansion is part of a $100-$120 million investment focused on real estate purchases and expansion projects in 2011. What’s more, they explained that the trucking industry hauls almost 90 percent of Wisconsin’s manufactured tonnage on an annual basis.
“With the additional direct coverage and the proximity of our terminal to our existing customer base, [this new service center] will enhance our service times and help us better respond to our customers’ needs,” said Darek Nowak, vice president of the Midwest Region for Old Dominion.
Prior to opening up this new service center in Madison, Novak said ODFL previously handled this territory through an agent. And he added that the company will be servicing shippers in a more than 50-mile radius of this new service center, with the 24-door facility providing service to more than 30 cities.
