Ideal for in-premise warehouse and manufacturing applications, as well as field service and mobile ticketing use, Motorola Solutions (Booth 3527) has unveiled the Workabout Pro 4 mobile computer.
The highly customizable device supports a broad range of modules—such as RFID readers, 1D or 2D bar code scanners, long-range scanners, and an 8-megapixel camera—that end users can attach as needs evolve, explained Mark Wheeler, director of industry solutions for Motorola Solutions, North America..
“All modules can be upgraded in the field when the users need them. And, because the unit is based on open architecture, Motorola partners can create custom solutions using our hardware developer kit,” he added.
Additionally, the durable device has been engineered with an IP65 sealing that protects against jetting water and rain. It can survive 6-foot drops to concrete, and works in temperatures from -4°F to 122°F.
Wheeler also emphasized the device’s lower total cost of ownership, and not just because of its rugged construction. “The modularity extends its life cycle; users can initially buy only the modules they need, and easily add features as needed without reinvesting in a whole new system.”
