Pallet wraps offer unitizing alternative to stretch wrap

Line of reusable pallet wraps unitize as well as protect loads and the environment.

Already offering a full line of reusable plastic pallets, Nuovo Group’s selection of complementary reusable pallet wraps for unitizing loads have proven popular among users seeking to further minimize their environmental impact.

“Unlike stretch wrap, which can only be used once and then is thrown away, these pallet wraps can be used over and over,” explains Santa Christina, president of Nuovo Group. “For customers who already have their reusable plastic pallets in a closed-loop distribution system, they are a great alternative.”

Christina estimates that every 2 feet of pallet wrap height prevents at least 250 pounds of stretch film waste from ultimately ending up in a landfill. The wraps come in a variety of sizes and heights, and can be custom manufactured to specific dimensions and with unique features to match any application.

“For operations that require secrecy of the contents, such as pharmaceutical items, we can make them from fully opaque material; alternately, they can be produced in clear material for easy visibility of the load’s contents,” she explains, adding that for fresh food and produce handling, a vented mesh material for enhanced airflow is also available.

“To support traceability initiatives, we’ve even manufactured wraps with a special pocket for a sensor and RFID tags that monitor temperatures and asset location,” she adds. The wraps also come in a rainbow of color choices. Further, they are weather resistant, recyclable, easily rolled up for storage, and they can be power washed with super-heated water for hygienic applications. All of the materials used are self-extinguishing, making the pallet wraps fire retardant.

They’re also easy to put on and take off a load ergonomically, without stretching, reaching, twisting or bending, Christina says.

“It takes a single person maybe 45 seconds to apply the pallet wrap to the load and 15 seconds to remove. That’s because the wraps are secured with a series of Velcro belts that loop through industrial strength D-rings and self-secure,” she says. “An additional strap across the top prevents the wrap from sliding down the load.”

For additional protection against load shifting during transit or storage, the wraps can be enhanced with corner straps, Christina adds.
