2014 Global Trade Activity Off to Solid Start

Researchers reported that U.S.-bound waterborne shipments in January—at 1,169,741—were up 9 percent year-over-year and up 7 percent from December to January. And the number of global manufacturers shipping to the U.S in January—at 165,531—was up 3 percent annually and up 1 percent from December to January.

Global trade activity had a strong beginning to 2014, according to data released by Panjiva, an online search engine with information on global suppliers and manufacturers.

Panjiva reported that U.S.-bound waterborne shipments in January—at 1,169,741—were up 9 percent year-over-year and up 7 percent from December to January. This December to January increase topped last year’s -1 percent decrease, with 2012 up 11.5 percent, 2011 up 17 percent, and 2010 down 3 percent.
