Pitt Ohio set to expand service into Louisville in August

Pittsburgh-based less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier Pitt Ohio said this week it will expand service to the Louisville, Kentucky market, effective Monday, August 17.

The company said standard service times for service into and out of Louisville will be 1-to-2 days in most parts of its direct service area, adding that shipper customers with freight in Pitt Ohio’s current direct coverage area destined for Louisville will be able to begin scheduling pickups on Friday, August 14.

“Our focus on providing customer-centric solutions to shippers has lead PITT OHIO to expand our core service area to include the metro Louisville market,” said Geoffrey Muessig, Pitt Ohio Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, in a statement. “Customers tell us that we can enhance their supply chains by providing reliable and dependable LTL service between the Mid-Atlantic states and Louisville.”

Pitt Ohio current serves the Louisville market through its efforts as part of The Reliance Network, a consortium of regional less-than-truckload (LTL) carriers, including Pitt Ohio, Mountain Valley Express, Peninsula Truck Lines, Averitt Express, Canadian Freightways/Kingsway Transport, Lakeville Motor Express, and Land Air Express of New England. The Reliance Network was established in 2008 and functions as a provider of seamless, national LTL, truckload and supply chain freight services.

A company spokesperson said that Pitt Ohio will still use The Reliance Network to service other areas of Kentucky it does not serve directly, adding that based on company estimates Pitt Ohio will begin its Louisville service with approximately eight-to-ten trailers per day.

“The biggest benefit for our customers is that we are providing a customer-centric solution to them by expanding our service area and exceeding expectations to and from this market,” the spokesperson said.
