RRTS expands LTL service out of Chicago

With an eye on meeting the needs of its Chicago-area shipper customers, asset-light transportation and logistics services provider Roadrunner Transportation Systems Inc. (RRTS) said this week that it has expanded its LTL (less-than-truckload) service in Chicago.

This initiative, said RRTS, will include expedited freight service to Los Angeles metro Atlanta metro, and Dallas metro––all originating from Chicago. RRTS said this offering, which is part of its time-sensitive LTL freight shipment service called Roadrunner Guarantee, took effect on May 2.

“The expedited freight service offers transit times one to two days shorter than standard delivery with a 100% on-time complete delivery,” said Grant Crawford, Roadrunner Transportation Systems President of Less-than-Truckload, in a statement. “The added expedited freight service from Chicago gives our customers the highest value for their transportation needs through timeliness, reporting and service.”

And an RRTS spokesperson told LM that this Chicago-based LTL offering was driven by customer and market feedback that helped the company see a gap it could fill, adding that RRTS has been in the Chicago market for decades and that this added service is something that will help shippers achieve quicker, reliable service to the locations of Atlanta, Los Angeles and Dallas metro areas.

“We are still providing value, but offering an expedited service option allows our customers to rely on us for standard and expedited LTL needs,” the spokesperson said. “We continue to work diligently to achieve and maintain levels of 95 percent+ on time service levels across our network.  While our focus is on consistency and reliability vs raw speed, with this expedited service we are able to speed up our service, for expedite customers and ultimately we expect as it grows, for our entire network.”

Earlier this month, RRTS said it has expanded its less-than-truckload (LTL) service through the addition of outbound service from Vancouver, British Columbia. RRTS said that this service will open the western half of Canada to its LTL Freight’s outbound service.

RRTS said the Canada expansion marked the fourth service expansion for Roadrunner’s LTL Freight division in 2016, following revised service standards and a guarantee LTL product roll-out in February 2016. Roadrunner expanded facilities in Houston and Dallas, and opened their own location in Memphis, TN earlier this year.
