Sealed Air’s paper materials certified as responsible

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody certification ensures the certified raw wood is accounted for throughout the supply chain.

Sealed Air has received the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody certification and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) chain of custody certification, allowing Sealed Air to label its raw paper materials as responsibly sourced according to the leading FSC and SFI standards.

For fifty years, Sealed Air has been a leading global manufacturer of a range of packaging and performance-based materials and equipment systems that now serve an array of food, industrial, medical, and consumer applications.

SFI chain of custody certification is an accounting system process that tracks material through the different stages of production. Through SFI chain of custody certification, a company can accurately identify how much certified forest, non-certified forest and/or recycled content is in a product. Sealed Air also is SFI Fiber Sourcing certified, which addresses the fact that 10 percent of the world’s forests are certified, and ensures that at least two-thirds of the raw material comes from responsibly sourced areas, and the remaining one-third is from non-controversial areas. Sealed Air paper products can be labeled with the SFI logo to denote that the product is made from responsible fiber sources.

FSC chain of custody certification ensures the certified raw wood is accounted for throughout the supply chain. The program recognizes use of recycled or reclaimed material and products bearing the FSC certification label can be traced to a certified source. Sealed Air can label its products with the FSC trademark to denote responsible production and consumption to customers who use the paper. Both certifications are valid for five years and require annual surveillance audits.

“These certifications assure our customers that Sealed Air paper mills are sourcing raw material for the paper from responsible sources,” said Mike Feeney, vice president and general manager of Sealed Air Paper Mill Group. “This is one of many ways that we strive to live up to the Sealed Air SmartLife promise to make the best sustainable decisions and deliver value through the entire product life cycle.”

Operating in 51 countries, Sealed offers widely recognized brands such as Bubble Wrap brand cushioning, Jiffy protective mailers, Instapak foam-in-place systems and Cryovac packaging technology.
