SHIFT freight introduces new service into Michigan and Ohio

SHIFT Freight, a less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier that moves freight from California, Nevada, and Arizona to the Eastern half of the United States, said this week that it is now serving 1,400 new direct points in Michigan and Ohio.

SHIFT’s business model is somewhat different from a traditional LTL carrier in that it utilizes its own equipment from a Pick Up standpoint and also uses Best-in-Class Delivery carriers for deliveries. The company’s president Joe Bartone explained in an interview that a major difference between SHIFT and other light asset-based carriers is “we pride ourselves on a customer experience and a price point that might be higher than most light asset-based carriers but much cheaper than the asset-based carriers, while not compromising service.”

As part of this new service offering, SHIFT said its business lines its had developed for 3PLs and shippers to Michigan and Ohio will also be introduced to more Midwestern areas. And along with Michigan and Ohio in the fold, SHIFT now provides service into 26 other states.

Bartone said that demand from direct shippers and 3PL partners is what drove expanding service into Michigan and Ohio.

“The feedback we receive most frequently is that our customers love what we do, but they wished that we serviced more lanes,” he explained. “We listened, and this rollout is 6 months in the making.”

He added that SHIFT prides itself on being loyal to its delivery partners, with the feedback it often hears is often replete with customer satisfaction and best-in-class service. As for this expansion and what customers can expect, the president said it is essentially more of the same in terms of high-quality service, expanded coverage, and more opportunities for customers to keep their business with SHIFT.

SHIFT currently has seven LTL carrier partners that Bartone said are viewed as “top tier” on an industry-wide basis, adding that even with this expansion its number of carrier partners is not expected to change.
