UPS Freight opens up new Chicago-area service center

UPS Freight, the less-than-truckload (LTL) subsidiary of UPS, recently announced it has rolled out a new service center facility in Franklin Park, Illinois.

This is the company’s fifth Chicago-area service center along with other ones in Aurora, Chicago, Palantine, and South Holland.

“UPS Freight added this building in Franklin Park to better meet the growing demand for our services and to be closer to our customers, providing earlier deliveries and later pickups,” aq UPS Freight spokesman told LM. “All five UPS Freight facilities in metro Chicago serve customers from a cross section of industries. UPS Freight moves Chicago customers’ inbound volume from across the U.S. to replenish their local distribution centers. In addition, UPS Freight leverages its new facility’s close proximity to O’Hare airport to better expedite the movement of our customers’ import and export air freight.” He added that UPS Freight is seeing continual growth in the Chicago market.

UPS said the new 28,000 square-foot facility, which is located on a five-acre lot with staging has 66 docks for loading and unloading LTL freight, as well as process shipments from around the United States and provide pickup and delivery services to shippers in the Greater Chicago area. And it added that around 90 staffers will work out of the facility, including truck drivers, dock workers, administrative and management workers.

“Our customers have added distribution centers in and around the Chicagoland area, driving greater demand for less-than-truckload (LTL) and full truckload (FTL),” he said, adding that the Franklin Park location complements the company’s four other Chicago-area locations.

The impetus for adding this location came from UPS Freight’s consistent evaluation of the market, with the company determining this location was a good move within the past 12-to-18 months, while noting this new service center is an additional investment for customers and shareholders.
