UPS rolls out major expansion plans in Brazil

In an effort to increase territorial coverage, improve transit time, and augment service quality in Brazil, UPS recently announced it has made significant service expansions with the opening of nine new operating facilities in the state of São Paulo.

The new locations, said UPS, will be strategically located in the cities of São Carlos, Ribeirão Preto, Franca, Bauru, São José dos Campos, São José do Rio Preto, Botucatu, Araçatuba and Presidente Prudente, and are expected to be completed by May 2015.

UPS said these new locations will increase UPS’s Brazil network by 78 percent and will reach more than 200 cities. And it added that the company will increase its ground fleet to 115 vehicles, with routes added to Santos, São José dos Campos, Sorocaba, Marila, and Campinas, which will allow UPS to extend its services by two more hours to place and pick-up orders and also enable customers to track shipments in real time through www.ups.com. When this expansion is complete, UPS’s expansion in the state of São Paulo will add nearly 216,000 square-feet to the company’s operations, which will be comprised of 21 operating facilities that will provide service for more than 110 municipalities and reach more than 200 Brazil-based cities, while adding roughly 100 new jobs, more than 800 third-party staff positions, and more than 3,000 employees will work for UPS in Brazil.

“Brazil is UPS’s largest market in Latin America, and the continued enhancement to our product portfolio and expansion with the country is part of our long-term strategy to increase our territorial coverage and strengthen our services, providing our customers optimum logistics solutions to better meet their needs,” said Nadir Moreno, UPS Brazil country manager, in an interview. “UPS is driven by innovation, and investment in technology and expansion into emerging markets like Brazil has been on our radar for many years. Plans such as our increase presence in the country’s domestic network is part of our company’s promise to do more so our customers can go further.”

Moreno said that in Brazil, UPS is the only logistics provider that offers a versatile range of multimodal transportation options (land, air and sea), direct flights to several cities in the region (Buenos Aires and Bogota), supply chain solutions, storage, distribution and equity financing.

“Our access to more than 200 cities and increase in the size of our ground fleet to 115 vehicles will allow more flexible pick-up times and faster time in-transit options for our customers,” he said. “In turn, the enhancement of UPS’s domestic services will provide better options that will help delivery speed and cost. Customers will now have available same day pick up until 4 p.m. in the major cities of Sao Paulo, daily pick up in the state of Sao Paulo until 6 p.m. and will be able to trace and gather information of their packages in real-time.”
