Get Some Career Insurance
October 1, 2008
My last Blog on September 19th addressed the urgent need for logistics professionals to Get Some Career Insurance. In light of the current economic environment, you would think that the need for this “insurance” would be obvious, but the absence of any response to my post leads me to question whether people think this is really a serious issue!
Perhaps logistics professionals are exempt from the need to have Career Insurance. Maybe with so many companies understanding the importance of logistics and supply chain issues, logistics professionals think they have nothing to worry about when it comes to keeping their jobs. Forget about the fact that Hewlett Packard, Akzo Nobel and other companies are cutting thousands of jobs, or that the jobless rate in Ohio is 7.2% - a sixteen year high.
Let’s get more personal - you may think that you have nothing to worry about and your job is safe. If your job is completely safe, great; however if you are even moderately concerned about what the future looks like, then you will want to examine your current professional status and what your options look like for the future.
Next week at CSCMP’s Annual Conference, there is an entire Track on Career Insurance. As the Chairman of AST&L, and the Chair Person for this Track, I can tell you that there are some extraordinary resources who will be leading the Sessions on this track. They will be addressing the issues you need to consider to insure your future as a logistics professional. If you are one of the readers who is not able to attend the Conference, but has an interest in this topic of Career Insurance, let me know. We will compile notes from the sessions and send you a summary of the Track.
If you will be in
TranzAct Technologies, Inc.

I don't personally understand why those affiliated with logistics and supply chain wouldn't want to have formal education to back up what they do every day. I hope you are referring to formal education as a means of career insurance.
