Trashing NAFTA
May 17, 2008

With bunker fuel prices reaching record highs, and demand for Asian imports slackening, will North American shippers see a resurgence of hemispheric commerce? As most of us know, Canada is our largest trading partner, and Mexico is third (just behind China). But political grandstanding may jeopardize NAFTA this year and complicate the forecasting plans of U.S. manufacturers and the transport community. How much of this is just campaign noise?

Dave Snyder / Federal Rack commented:

Fuel prices won't be going down any time soon. Everyone, shippers and customers will need to adjust and adapt operations to remain competitive and meet everyones needs. It makes sense that we will start to look to our north and south again.
